Another Squeak Squad

September 7, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I didn’t know that this was a real thing… I just googled Squeak Squad and I found out that it is the name of a video game.

For more information about this, check out this post on wikipedia.

It says Kirby: Squeak Squad, known in Japan as Hoshi no Kābī: San’jō! Dorocche Dan (星のカービィ 参上! ドロッチェ団 Hoshi no Kābī: San’jō! Dorocche Dan?, “Kirby of the Stars: Calling On! Dorocche Gang”) and in Europe as Kirby Mouse Attack, is a platforming video game developed by Flagship and published by Nintendo and HAL Laboratory for the Nintendo DS handheld video game console.
Unlike the previous Nintendo DS title Kirby: Canvas Curse, Squeak Squad is a traditional platformer which uses the face buttons instead of the touch screen to control Kirby.

I honestly never heard of this game and I doubt my daughter did either, since as I explained in an earlier post, my daughter named this blog for me, she’s only 3 years old. She saw my Geek Squad t-shirt and couldn’t say Geek Squad, so instead she said Sqeak Squad… ever since that’s what she says when I wear that shirt.

So Nintendo, don’t sue me.. it was an honest mistake.. but I am not going to change my name for as much as I am concerned it’s what my daughter said… and you stole the name from my 3 year old.

Now I’m almost interested in getting a copy of this game for my daughter, it might be something she could actually play. That reminds me, I need to write about kids games.. and what’s wrong and right with them.

I want to touch the ipod touch

September 7, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Well that’s probably a lame title, but I really do want to get an ipod touch, so I can touch it. Preferably, it would be my own itouch, so instead of just touching it, I could keep it.

Okay, so for those who don’t know or who have just arrived from a time warp, or aren’t really up on new technology, the ipod touch is the new ipod model from Apple.

It is basically the iphone minus the phone and a few other features I guess.

I have a few questions about how it it works and the design. I wonder why only 8 gig and 16 gig models, that seems small for me. I don’t see why they couldn’t at least make a 20 gig and a 40 gig model or something. Anyway, I also don’t know how Safari (the internet application) will function on the ipod touch. Will it be something that just allows you to view web pages, or does it actually allow you to interact with the web pages as the real Safari or any other web browser would.

I think the ipod touch and other gadgets like this, will be the end of pda’s (Personal Digital Assistants). Actually, that’s all the ipod itouch is, it’s a music player with, pda capabilities such as a calendar, contacts and a web browser, in addition to the other features such as playing viewing videos from youtube.com and some of your favorite photos.

What really makes this gadget unique, is the way you interact with it, you basically just touch it to do everything, there are no buttons on it other than one to put it to sleep.

The rest of the buttons are images that appear as a result of how you interact with this device.

This device is also Apple’s combat to Microsoft’s Zune, which uses wi-fi as well. I think this think will really hurt sales of the Zune, which weren’t that high anyway.

I’m not sure how well this gadget will do, but I think it will do much better than the iphone for sure. Especially since it’s available for anyone, whereas the iphone was not sold in about half of the United States.

It’s just amazing to think that people will be paying $300 or more for a small device that isn’t much bigger than your average check book or wallet. Actually, this is a bad analogy, but it’s really not much bigger than a cell phone. Well, duh it basically is the iphone as I said… I wish they had left the camera in it and then it would really be cool.. but oh well.

I do hope that the iphone and the ipod touch allow third party software… Well actually, they probably won’t since the original ipod doesn’t really allow third party software either, it’s just that you can hack an ipod to put a different operating system on it, such as Linux.

So, maybe someday I will get to touch an ipod touch, but it probably won’t be for awhile.

Yet another blog

September 7, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Okay, I consider myself a blogger, but according to some people, a real blogger is a person who updates their blog at least once a day, if not more than once a day. If that’s the case, well, I don’t have time to do that. I do have time to occasionally enter a post into my blog or one of my blogs on a regular basis, maybe once a week or so. Lately, I haven’t been motivated at all to write anything for any of my blogs, until recently.

I have been listening to a lot of podcasts lately, making use of my expensive video ipod I purchased a few years ago. Now, I am eager to get the new itouch, but I don’t think that will be happening anytime soon.

I even cancelled my XM radio, since it was too expensive, I couldn’t afford it and all the other services we have, such as cell phones, satellite tv, high-speed internet and the basic utilities… so XM radio had to go. I’m surprised, I really don’t miss it, since I find that I don’t even have time to listen to all of the podcasts on my ipod anyway. So, I was wasting my time listening to the garbage they called a radio show featuring Opie and Andy. Actually it’s Opie and Anthony and Lil’ Jimmy Norton along with… all of the pests, and poor Stalker Patty. Anyway, I sort of miss that show, but that’s too bad for them… I’ve moved on.

This new blog of mine was actually named by my daughter. She’s only 3. It all started when I was wearing my Geek Squad t-shirt. I told her that it said Geek Squad, and she said Squeak Squad, ever since then she says, “Daddy, you are wearing your squeak squad shirt.” So the name stuck. I also was influenced by listening to a podcast where the name of the blog was geekdaddy or something like that.

I will try to cover tech related items on this blog. My other blogs, including Ramblings of a Small Town Kid, is a continuation of my old newspaper column I had. The other blogs are specific, such as one on Net Neutrality, and the program of study for my masters degree, which is Instructional Design and Technology. I also have a blog about issues related to the University of North Dakota and hockey. I have one more blog that is work related and that is one I set up for people to view after a presentation at a conference. I don’t think many people viewed it, but I think that might change after this year when (or I should say if I present). I think more people will go to check out the blog to download the information if nothing else. I will add some links and include the presentation for people to use.

So, now you know what this blog will be about.

I think I will try to maintain all of my blogs, or at least this one and my more personal one, but I think blogging is an art that some people are good at and others… not so good. I’m not sure about myself, I would like to find out from anyone who reads this.
